Year 6 Crack the Sarum Code!

On Wednesday 1st February some of Year 6 popped over to the Cathedral during their maths lesson.  Last week in maths they had had lots of fun looking at rabbits, cauliflowers and the Mona Lisa on the internet.   This week they discovered what the connection was.  Sarah, their Cathedral guide, began by talking about cauliflowers, rabbits and the Mona Lisa.  Curiouser and curiouser!   The link was Fibonacci.  This Italian mathematician came up with a sequence of numbers and from them he came up with the Golden ratio. This ratio can be found (you guessed it) in cauliflowers, rabbits’ breeding patterns and the Mona Lisa.   The girls discovered that this ratio is also evident in our wonderful Cathedral.  Tess said that it was 'the best maths lesson ever!'
