Mrs Eager makes it to the top!
The headmistress of Leaden Hall, Mrs Eager, had a very exciting holiday as she and her family climbed up to the top to Mount Kilimanjaro – 5895 metres above sea level. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in the world that can be climbed without mountaineering experience and equipment. “It was still very hard work”, said Mrs Eager, “as it took five and a half days to reach the summit and one and a half days to come down again.” The summit day started at 12 midnight and it took 9 hours to reach the ‘Roof of Africa’ just after the sun had risen. Mrs Eager and her family were very fortunate not to be affected by altitude sickness as that affects nearly one in three climbers. Summing up the whole experience, Mrs Eager and her family all agreed that it was “an amazing, lifetime experience”.
