Wow, what a night! The Year 6 girls were invited to sing alongside Blake in the City Hall on Thursday 26th April 2012. It was an incredible experience! The excitement and reality of it all started when they arrived at the City Hall for the rehearsal an hour and a half before the show. The magnitude of the venue was quite overwhelming. The Blake boys were absolutely charming and really helped the girls during the rehearsal making the whole thing seem less daunting.
At 7pm it was time to get ready. The girls were treated like film stars and were given amazing dressing rooms with mirrors surrounded by lights! They had plenty of room to make themselves look beautiful!
The time came at about 8pm for the grand entrance. The girls came on stage and sang 3 songs alongside Blake before the interval. They stood beautifully and really rose to the occasion with great dignity. After the interval they had their real true moment of stardom and sang a solo song in front of an audience of over 500 people. They did it with such ease and confidence that it was a joy to watch.
The whole night ended on a complete high with ‘Jerusalem’. Everyone, including the audience were standing, waving and singing along with Blake and it was truly fabulous to be a part of.
Congratulations to the girls for putting so much energy into learning the songs in such a short space of time and to Mr Woodgates, who believed in them and knew they could 'pull it off'! Thanks to the whole Leaden Hall team including teachers, admin staff, kitchen staff and boarding staff for adding their personal touches and making the whole night happen seamlessly. Clare Geary
