Comenius Project

From little acorns to Eco-warriors is the title of Leaden Hall’s third Comenius Project with schools across Europe.  The Comenius Project enables schools in the EU to forge links and visit each other with funding provided by the British Council through the EU.

The partner schools agree a calendar of learning for their children across the two years of the project and work is swapped between the schools electronically or by post or during visits.  On this project children have made musical instruments solely from recycled materials, and played them; they have learned about creatures in rainforests and how rainforests are in need of protection; they have designed and created board games with an environmental theme; they have learned about healthy eating.

The first face-to-face meeting of staff and pupils from the five partner schools was at Leaden Hall in November 2009 with representatives from partner schools in France, Cyprus, Sardinia and Poland.  Since then 2 members of Leaden Hall staff have accompanied four girls to our partner schools in Nicosia in Cyprus, Louvres in France; Macomer in Sardinia and Bydgoszcz in Poland.  During visits children of the five nationalities enjoyed environmental activities, such as at Leaden Hall, building homes for insects to over-winter in and building nesting boxes.  Children at the host schools were in charge of looking after visiting children, showing them their school and playing together.  Visiting children and staff enjoyed sight-seeing and taking evening meals together.
