NHS Assembly
What do Leaden Hall girls do in assemblies?

On the 22nd of September, Dr. Andy Davies came into Leaden Hall School to be interviewed by the girls of Leaden Hall School in their assembly. He is a consultant officer working for the National Health Service – the NHS. Mrs. Litherland came up with the brilliant idea that we should find out if Dr. Davies and other people working at the NHS were as eco as we were. Some pupils came to the front of the Stephenson Hall and asked Dr Davies a question about where he works. One of the questions we asked was: “What do you do with used injection needles?”
He replied, “We have a special box to put them in and once someone has put something in, they can’t take it out again and when it is full, we burn the box.” Another question that we asked was:
“Do you turn the main lights off at night?”
“We do our best to, but with patients in wards, we have to keep the lights on in case something happens to them, but we try and keep our office lights off. Did you know, that the equivalent of having the lights on all night is the same as boiling 1000 cups of tea!” Dr. Davies also showed us all the different plastic bags that they use at the NHS; they use one bag to put dirty sheets in, in case the sheets have germs on. This is quite clever because then the doctors don’t have to touch the sheets, therefore don’t risk getting ill. Another bag was for anything that needed to get burnt.

Wow, that was an interesting assembly! Almost every one was eager to ask a question!!!

We would love to say an enormous thank you to Dr. Davies for coming to talk to us. Also a big thank you to Mrs. Litherland for organising this affair.

Now that is what we call a fascinating assembly!!
